Field Notes: Our Recipe for a User-Friendly Website Redesign

Case Study: Branding and Website Redesign Featured Image

From Onion Creek Kitchens to Sibby Barrett

Sibby Barrett, a private chef known for offering personalized culinary experiences, was ready to embark on a new chapter. After selling her well-loved location, Onion Creek Kitchens, she sought to rebrand her business to focus on her individuality, expertise, and direct connections with clients. With a trusted friendship developed over the years, Sibby turned to Lynn & the rest of the Seventh Scout team to help her reimagine her brand and create a website that was both beautiful and functional.

Showcasing Sibby as the Secret Ingredient

The goal was clear: transition Sibby’s identity from a physical location to her personal brand. This meant crafting a website and brand experience that:

  • Highlighted Sibby as the heart of her services.
  • Presented her expertise in private chef services, group classes, and public classes.
  • Equipped her with tools to manage her online presence independently.

We set out to not only build an engaging website but also empower Sibby to take full ownership of her brand.

Sibby has always been a remarkable force in the culinary world, and it was an honor for Seventh Scout to help her transition from Onion Creek Kitchens to a brand that truly reflects her passion and expertise. As someone who deeply loves food and the connections it creates, this was easily the most delicious project I’ve ever worked on. We immersed ourselves in her world, ensuring her new website and branding authentically showcased her story. The result is a bespoke, user-friendly platform that highlights Sibby as the heart of her business, empowering her to connect with clients in a way that’s uniquely hers.

Shifting Perspectives and Defining a New Vision

Understanding Sibby’s Story
To authentically capture who Sibby is, we immersed ourselves in her culinary world, experiencing her services firsthand and engaging in collaborative conversations. This helped us convey her unique persona and what makes her offerings stand out.

Small but Purposeful Project
Although this was a smaller, one-off project, we approached it with the same dedication we bring to larger, long-term engagements. Every detail was considered to ensure a meaningful result.

Collaboration at the Core

At Seventh Scout, we believe that every successful project starts with understanding our client’s vision. For Sibby, this meant deeply immersing ourselves in her world to create an authentic brand and website.

  • We secured the domain name SibbyBarrett.com to align with her rebranded identity.
  • Through collaboration, we made strategic decisions that reflected her aesthetic, services, and goals.

The design process incorporated elements of Sibby’s personal style and the warmth of her culinary experiences, ensuring that the website was not just functional but also an extension of her personality.

Building Sibby’s Brand and Digital Presence

Branding: Designing Sibby’s Identity

We collaborated closely with Sibby to create a brand identity that reflected her personality and services. Key deliverables included:

  • A clean and sophisticated wordmark based on her name, emphasizing her personal brand.
  • Visual elements inspired by block printing and natural textures, which resonated with Sibby’s style and aesthetic.

Creating a brand around an individual instead of a company or organization can be challenging and even a bit intimidating. However, Sibby's passion and enthusiasm for sharing her culinary expertise and for teaching others is so genuine that it felt like the branding created itself! I loved the experience of taking a Sibby Barrett cooking class with the Seventh Scout team. It gave our team an invaluable understanding of both Sibby's talents and the cooking class experience and helped us create authentic content.

Content Creation & Promotion

Seventh Scout wrote fresh, engaging website copy, working with client-supplied photos to create a cohesive and vibrant digital presence. To support her ongoing marketing efforts, we also:

  • Developed a multimedia content library including evergreen photos and written content.
  • Created evergreen social media posts reflecting content pillars that are tailored to her audience.

I’m deeply grateful to Sibby for welcoming me into her world during the creation of this website. Getting the chance to capture photos of her in action as she worked in her space was not only a joy but also a truly unique experience. It allowed me to see first-hand the care, passion, and attention to detail she pours into her culinary craft—just like any customer would. Experiencing her work firsthand also gave me invaluable insight that helped me craft the website copy with authenticity and depth, capturing the essence of her culinary experiences in a way that words alone could not.

Empowering Sibby for Success

We provided hands-on training to ensure Sibby could confidently manage and update her website, content, and product listings without ongoing external support.

As a self-proclaimed foodie and lover of all things hospitality, I was so excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Sibby. From diving hands-first into a cooking class to shadowing the magic of a private dining experience, I had the privilege of seeing her culinary talent in action. This behind-the-scenes perspective gave me a deep appreciation for the heart and soul Sibby pours into every meal, every detail, and every guest interaction. Capturing photos and crafting evergreen social media posts that aligned with her content pillars was an opportunity to amplify her passion and showcase the authenticity of her craft to a broader audience. It was an experience I’ll cherish, and one that inspired me on both a professional and personal level.
