Born as a small local hardware store near the University of Texas in 1970, Breed & Co. is now an Austin institution. Now operating in four locations across the city, each shop still stocks hardware basics to support neighborhood projects, Breed and Co. does more than nails and screws; it’s the go-to shop for fine table settings, garden gifts and exceptional customer service. When the Breed & Co. team wanted to support the grand opening of their fourth store with an ecommerce launch, and refreshed social media channels, Seventh Scout jumped aboard.

The Challenge

The most challenging aspect of creating an e-commerce Breed & Co. was finding a way to translate the full in-store experience to a website. Seventh Scout was charged with making this website look and feel like a neighborhood store while expanding the customer base, attracting new customers to the brand, improving social media engagement, and increasing sales across touchpoints. As luck would have it, our relationship began with Halloween just around the corner, creating the perfect opportunity for executing on a brand strategy and promoting a seasonal product line.

The Seventh Scout troop used industry standard Shopify to build an e-commerce store for the Halloween Shop and promoted it on the existing social media channels with videos, product photos, and lifestyle shots. This organic activity was bolstered by paid advertising to send traffic to the Shop. To round out the strategy, Seventh Scout delivered an ownable content strategy plan to improve SEO, which included optimizing product descriptions and web pages, and publishing blog articles.

  • The Halloween Shop exceeded expectations as far as attracting new customers and generating sales, prompting Breed & Co to expand its engagement with Seventh Scout. As part of a retainer, Seventh Scout expanded upon the Halloween Shop aesthetic to launch a full ecommerce site, which displays a multitude of the brand’s products.
  • Ongoing marketing and content efforts including regular blog and social posts and paid advertising continues to attract new customers, retain existing customers, and generate sales.
  • Seventh Scout collaborates with Breed & Company to highlight featured vendor collections on all digital assets, promote special events to drive in-store traffic, and highlight select signature gifts to generate more online sales.
